T' ELECTRIC HONEY SPINNER
CHOOSE THI SIZE - YORKSHIRE EDITION
Ey up, beekeeper! Sick o' hand-crankin' till yer arms are like jelly? Whether tha's got 2 hives or 20, we've got t' spinner that'll do t' graft while tha puts kettle on.
Same motor, same shiny stainless build, just pick t' drum size that fits thi shed.
WHAT'S T' SAME ON BOTH?
Motor: Proper 140W, 0-1300 RPM adjustable speed. Dial it slow for delicate new comb, gun it for last drop. Quiet, no overheatin'.
Safety lid: Clear fittable lid so tha can watch t' honey fly off. Lift lid? Auto-stops. Keeps thi fingers where they should be.
Build: Full food-grade polished stainless steel. Honey's acidic but this won't rust or taint. Wipes clean wi' warm water.
Legs: Adjustable 39.3" to 42.5" (100-108cm). Bolt 'em to a bit o' ply so it doesn't dance across t' floor.
Tap: 1.8" / 45mm honey gate, gravity fed, clean flow - no honey all over t' floor for t' missus to moan about.
Fit: Tangential - spins one side, tha flips. Takes Deep 48x23cm and Medium 48x16cm combs.
OPTION 1: T' BIG LAD - 4/8 FRAME [MOST POPULAR]
For them wi' 5+ hives or big harvests.
Capacity: 4x Deep frames OR 8x Medium/Shallow supers in one go
Drum: 18.5" / 47cm wide, 24" / 61cm drum height, 33.7" / 85.5cm total height
Basket: 17.3" / 44cm tall, 7.4"/19cm x 8.4"/21.5cm slot
Weight: 9.7kg - light enough to lug, heavy enough not to wobble
Best for: Langstroth Deep/Medium perfect fit out o' box. Half t' time spinnin'.
OPTION 2: T' LITTLE 'UN - 2/4 FRAME [BEGINNER / SMALL APIARY]
Same guts, dinkier drum. For 1-3 hives, tight sheds, or lighter wallet.
Capacity: 2x Deep frames OR 4x Medium/Shallow supers in one go
Drum: 15" / 38cm wide, 24" / 61cm drum height, 33.7" / 85.5cm total height
Basket: 17.3" / 44cm tall, 9.25"/23.5cm x 6.5"/16.5cm slot
Weight: 30.6 lbs / 13.9 kg - sturdy but ye can shift it wi' a bit o' effort
Best for: Hobby keepers, National hives (see bodge below), or as second spinner.
Voltage: 220-240V/50Hz UK mains version.
**WILL IT FIT NATIONAL FRAMES? AYE - HERE'S T' 10p BODGE:**
This is where everyone gets confused. These are built for Langstroth (19" top bar). National top bar is 17" - so it's narrower and rattles.
Beekeeping Forum trick for this exact model (tested by lads wi' Nationals):
> "Yes they take 8 super frames tangentially but you need to make some loops of cable ties to hold the lugs at the top of the cage and keep the super frames in place. No problem they work fine."
How to do it:
1. Get 4x big cable ties (300mm).
2. Make a little loop round t' top wire of each basket pocket.
3. Loop holds t' short National lug so it doesn't slip down.
4. Load balanced: 2 opposite each other, or 4 / 8 evenly. Always balance or it'll wobble like a drunk.
National Supers = 8x in Big Lad, 4x in Little 'Un (wi' loops)
National Deeps = 4x in Big Lad, 2x in Little 'Un (wi' loops)
Start slow 300-400 RPM for 30 secs till some honey's out, then crank up. Don't gun it straight to 1300 or tha'll blow comb. If tha wants to be posh, £7-8 plastic adapters on Etsy/eBay (National to Langstroth) do same job.
WHICH ONE SHOULD THA BUY THEN?
Got lots o' supers? Get Big Lad 4/8 - done in half t' batches.
Got 2-3 hives, or limited space?** Get Little 'Un 2/4 - does same job, easier to store.
Not sure? Get Big Lad - tha can always put less frames in, but tha can't put more in't little one.
Stop faffin' wi' hand crank. Get it spun, get it jarred, get to t' pub.
